The HostThe Host

When we smell and taste we are actually sensing chemicals in our environment.  To accomplish this task, we have chemoreceptors on our tongue as tastebuds and in our nose.

Monarchs use their antennae and legs to smell and taste which are covered with chemoreceptors.

Monarchs use sensing chemicals in order to find their host plant, milkweed, quickly and accurately.
