Hot Foot
This finch had just finished feeding on grape jelly in the oriole feeder and had landed on the deck railing. It almost immediately jumped straight up as if the surface was too hot for its feet. Admittedly, it was bout 90 degrees and the railing had been in the sun for hours, but I never have seen a bird (other than a hummingbird) move straight up before flying away.
