Mountain lions also are known as cougars, pumas and panthers. They have established themselves in northern Montana in areas like Whitefish where I got lucky and was able to capture this majestic looking cat before it leaped away. While I didn't;t get close enough to check, I believe this was a female. Male typically weigh between 115-220 pounds while the females are smaller (65-140 pounds). Either way, even though they typically avoid human interaction, as with any wildlife precaution is the key word!
