I watched this male red-bellied woodpecker execute many round trips o the bird feeder to gather sunflower seeds so it could feed its mate. Like most woodpeckers, they eat a lot of insects as well as plant material during some seasons. Access to the sunflower seeds always brings them here. This breed resides in eastern part of the US and Canada. They are 100% native in N America.
