The Waiting Game
Our swan couple have settled into the incubation period. She, the pen, spends most of her time sitting on the eggs. Our temperatures declined quickly overnight and it appears as though she has spread her wings a bit to provide further shelter for the clutch of eggs. The male, the cob, spends his days guarding the lake - - their lake -- against intruders, chasing all waterfowl away from the nest area, protecting his mate and feeding to keep up his strength. We likely are half way through the incubation period now and hopefully all five eggs will hatch so we can watch the cygnets arrive and begin their new lives.
