Side-by-Side
This is the very beginning stage of the elaborate mating ritual of these mute swans. The swans will be close to each other, often side by side. With their bodies almost side-by-side, they begin to dip their heads below the water, pull them out and begin preening themselves. The next stages are even more elaborate and the pace picks up until the mating actual happens. That's not the end of this elaborate ritual, however. Stay connected and watch it unfold. It is truly amazing and I was fortunate to have been able to observe it all. Something I never will forget.
